Snoring Surgery by CSSC

Snoring or mild sleep apnoea refers to a situation in which a sleep study does not demonstrate a significant number of obstructive events. This may indicate that there is no clinically meaningful airway obstruction likely to cause health consequences. Alternatively, it may reflect the limitations of a single-night sleep study, which may not always capture the full picture.

When snoring is associated with significant daytime symptoms—such as excessive sleepiness, poor concentration, or fatigue—there is a higher likelihood of an under-reported sleep disorder. In contrast, in the absence of daytime sleepiness or other symptoms, snoring alone is less likely to be associated with medical complications.

Nevertheless, snoring can have important effects on relationships, sleep quality, and mental well-being. These factors are key discussion points during a sleep clinic consultation.

Snoring Surgery may be considered for individuals with snoring who do not respond to conservative measures. Modern sleep surgeries, such as BRP (Barbed Reposition Pharyngoplasty) surgery, have demonstrated significant improvement in partner-witnessed disruptive snoring. We are currently conducting a study to further validate these outcomes based on partner-reported feedback.

If you have concerns about social snoring or its impact on your quality of life, please discuss them with sleep specialists at CSSC. It is recommended that you obtain a sleep study before the clinic appointment, as for all patients seen at CSSC.
